OUR SUSTAINABILITY STORY - PART 1

Getting Greener

Sustainability Company

Climate change. A topic at the forefront of many decisions and conversations for governments, companies and individuals alike. How do we reverse the course and protect our earth, its inhabitants and its vital natural resources?

Corporate responsibility is a key factor in paving a new, greener way forward. Not only are consumers demanding more sustainable products, but more and more companies are integrating sustainability into their strategies and development. At Freudenberg, we recognize the important role we play in contributing to a better world and while we have accomplished a lot, our sustainability journey has just begun.

Sustainability at Freudenberg Performance Materials

As a values-based company, Freudenberg has anchored sustainability in its strategy. Fair business is good business. Being successful is not just about financial success, but also our commitment to health, safety and environmental protection, corporate citizenship, compliance, human rights and labor standards – as well as sustainability.

Sustainability at Freudenberg

For us, sustainability means conserving resources in materials and energy as well as developing products and solutions for our partners that contribute to their sustainability goals. This approach is two dimensional: our footprint and our handprint.

MINIMIZING THE FOOTPRINT MAXIMIZING THE HANDPRINT

Our footprint is the quantity of resources used to generate our products and services – our impact on the environment. This should be as small as possible. Our handprint is the development of products and services that allow our customers be more efficient and sustainably or have their end products use fewer resources. This impact should be as big as possible.

25 PERCENT LESS CO2 BY 2025

The sustainability of products and processes has been part of Freudenberg’s corporate responsibility for many years. In 2016, the Group developed a Group-wide sustainability strategy. In addition, sustainability was made an integral part of the strategy process.
Freudenberg created the “Sustainability Drives Climate Action” project in respect to the challenges and opportunities of climate change. Through this project, the first steps of the Freudenberg Group are to reduce CO2 emissions by 25 percent by 2025. Secondly, the opportunities and costs of climate neutrality for Freudenberg are to be identified in 2021. In this context, Freudenberg has adopted a four-stage strategy:

Stage 1: Reduce energy consumption
Stage 2: Cover the remaining energy demand using electric power to the greatest extent possible.
Stage 3: Improve the Freudenberg Group’s energy balance by purchasing green electric power.
Stage 4: Freudenberg is committed to offsetting CO2 emissions through ongoing efforts.
